Lou Reed and Metallica Preview

Loutallica yesterday released a 30 second preview of  “The View,” the first single from their forthcoming collaborative effort Lulu.  The album’s scheduled release is October 31 worldwide and November 1 in North America.  “The View” will be available September 27.  The ten track Lulu was inspired by German expressionist writer Frank Wedekind’s plays Earth Spirit and Pandora’s Box.

The plays tell the story of a young abused dancer’s life and relationships and are collectively known as the “Lulu Plays.”  They were first published in the early 1900’s, and have inspired a silent film (Pandora’s Box, 1929), an opera, and countless other creative endeavors.  Reed originally sketched out the lyrics and musical landscape for a theatrical production in Berlin, but after working with Metallica at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009 decided that they all wanted to collaborate on more musical projects so Reed invited Metallica to work with him on “Lulu.”  Click here to hear the preview.
